Weather Stations

BIGG has established weather stations in four representative pasture paddocks throughout the Barossa region.  Each station comprises a sub-surface capacitance probe, an automatic rain gauge and sensors measuring air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, wind direction, solar radiation and net radiation. These are connected to a solar powered telemetry unit that transmits data every 15 minutes.

The weather stations are located at:
    • Flaxman Valley (phalaris/annual grasses/sub-clover pasture - sandy loam over clay)
    • Keyneton (annual grasses/sub clover pasture - red loam over clay)
    • Koonunga (crop pasture rotation - red brown earth)
    • Moculta (native pasture - shallow clayey red brown earth over lime)
